Mission 2 Complete!

Mission 2 is now complete, and it’s funny, I got quite different results from Mission 1. I don’t know if it was the deeper eye contact or if it was simply different individuals.

Also, after the first two conversations I was about to start complaining about there being too many dudes. As it turned out, I encountered at least 3 semi-attractive women in the past few days. I know that it wasn’t the point of this mission to actually interact with women, but I still like it. I wonder if I will have a string of luck like that again. I’m hoping to know how to handle these situations with ease. Like I said, I’m sure we’ll get to that. On to the next mission!

Mission grade: B+

I think I was solid on the conversations; that pulled me up. But I haven’t listened to the audio yet, and my goals somehow feel incomplete. I’m not sure why. I guess they will have to be a work in progress.

And here’s a twist…there’s a note about the next mission:

“The next mission needs to be read the first thing in the morning before ANYTHING. Before showering, brushing teeth, or checking email.”

Intriguing…

Mission 2 Field Test – Conversations 3-5

The final 3 conversations for Mission 2 were somehow MUCH more promising than the first two I chatted up for this mission. I’m both liking this mission but also wondering if I would have talked to these people normally. I’m leaning towards no; I think these missions are working.

CONVERSATION 3 – Cake girl

(7:55 am in my building’s parking lot. Girl with a cake getting into her car.)

Me: (OMG! OMG! CUTE CUTE CUTE! And she parks right next to me! Settle settle settle!) Good morning!
Her: Good morning!
Me: Breakfast? (Points at elaborate cake balancing precariously on her car.)
Her: (Giggles!) Yeah, want some?
Me: And ruin this figure? No thanks. Have a great day! (as we are getting in our cars)
Her: You too, see ya around.

Eye color: Brown

But wow, she was CUTE. Wish I could have made a bit more of an impression. But I was barely awake and heading to work. Not the right frame. Anyway, I’m really hoping the high end German car she was entering doesn’t belong to her boyfriend.

CONVERSATION 4 – Gym girl

(7:30 pm as gym classes overlap. I made eye contact with a girl as she walked by.)

Her: Hi. (smiles)
Me: (Realized I might have been staring) Hi. Tough class today?
Her: Yeah. Have a good workout. (said as she exits)

Eye color: Brown

Ok, that was interesting. It happened so fast and I didn’t even process it at the time. It was only later, that I realized that my eye contact made her react. She didn’t HAVE to say hello. Technically, she was the first to “talk” to a stranger. But I am going to count this anyway being that this mission is all about eye contact.

CONVERSATION 5 – New girl at work

(2:38 pm as I walk by a cube with the new girl.)

Me: Hi, do you work here?
Her: (chuckles) Yes, I do.
Me: I haven’t see you around, did you just start?
Her: Well, I started in June, but don’t usually come in to the office but I’m starting to more.
Me: Welcome!
Her: Thanks. That website you made is really cool. I like it a lot.
Me: Thanks, I thought it turned out well.
(Blah blah blah…we chat a bit more)

Eye color: Brown (Hair color: Blond)

Ok, things are looking up. Just as I was complaining about too many dude encounters for the first couple of conversations, along come THREE different cuties.

Mission 2 Field Test – Conversations 1-2

I’ve been doing my best to complete Mission 2 quickly by talking to more strangers over the past couple days. Here are the first couple:

CONVERSATION 1 – Delivery dude

(7:05 pm in the elevator, again. Random dude in the elevator. 26 years old I’m guessing.)

Me: Hey.
Him: Hi.
Me: Do you live in the building?
Him: No, delivery guy.
Me: Oh yeah? Which place?
Him: From XXXXX just a few blocks away.
Me: Didn’t know they delivered, I just moved in.
Him: Oh, nice place. You should try it, it’s good.
Me: I think I will, have a good one! (he exits elevator)

Eye color: Brown

CONVERSATION 2 – Election party

(8:00 pm at an election party in a bar I randomly wandered into. I saw TV cameras and went in to check it out. Young kid with a backpack, 22 years old)

Me: Hey man, what time does this thing start?
Him: Hi. I think it should begin any minute now.
Me: Oh cool, drew quite a crowd.
Him: Yeah, I wasn’t expecting so many. Did you vote for XXXXX?
Me: Yes, I did. (Actually, I did. Not sure how this happened.)
Him: Me too. Do you live in the neighborhood?
Me: Blah blah blah.

(I’m going to stop here. We chatted for a while about several things. He was very eager to chat and happy about it. Nice kid.)

Eye color: Blue

Observation 1: It’s less awkward talking to strangers already.
Observation 2: Too. Many. Dudes.

Mission 2 Overview

PART 1: Goal Setting
Ok, Mission 2 starts now. It’s goal setting time. Goal setting has always been tough for me. I feel like I do this subliminally and it just happens for me. Because somehow I’ve done some remarkable things in life already. I’ve graduated college, traveled, and have a very promising career. Regardless, I’m going to try find ways to reach my fullest potential even though just the setting of these goals will need some serious thought.

3 accomplishments to achieve to make me happier:
1. Start my own web design and development company
2. Buy a cool loft-style condo but still have money leftover for International travel
3. Continue my aggressive workout routines to get in the best shape possible (I don’t really know how to exact a goal for this…I don’t need to lose weight.)
Reasons these will make me happier:
1. I want the freedom, reward, and flexibility of self-employment.
2. What better way to live than to own a “base” from which to go to new places and experience new things? I love to travel…maybe that should be my goal?
3. This won’t just make me look better but it will make me feel better about myself plus it’s healthy!
Personal mission:
1. I will become a self-employed web designer/developer who will build cool websites within 2 years.
2. I will become a world traveler who will visit new countries every year.
3. I will become a healthy man who will be in excellent shape and eat well starting now.
Three results that will accomplish mission:
1. I will have quit my day job.
2. I will have visited one new country each year.
3. I will have continued my current workout plan and cook one new recipe each week.
Why I am committed to personal mission:
1. Because if I don’t now, I will suffer and my career will stagnate. But if I do, I will enjoy my next years and my freedom to travel and job satisfaction will increase.
2. Because if I don’t now, I will suffer and my wanderlust will not be satisfied. But if I do, I will enjoy my next years and my quality of life and sense of adventure will improve.
3. Because if I don’t now, I will suffer and my health will deteriorate. But if I do, I will enjoy my next years and my health and diet will improve.
My own addition: In addition to the above, I will remember it is not all about me. I will try find ways to improve the quality of life of my family, friends, and society as a whole. Everyone deserves a chance at health and happiness.

PART 2: Self-Hypnosis
This one is optional. In the book, an audio file is referenced that is supposed to strengthen subconscious intent through self-hypnosis. It is downloadable here. The book instructs you to relax, and take the journey. It’s important to “feel” the journey in a quiet place. The more it is repeated the better the result.

It is now on my iPod.

Part 3: Field Test
Same field test as Mission 1, go talk to 5 strangers. “But this time, look into their eyes and record the color. Meeting people eye-to-eye will help to connect with them on a more personal level.”

Interesting…I certainly didn’t expect to have to do the same thing. But more practice doesn’t hurt, and this time, there’s the twist too. More to come…
